Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Like yesterday there were a lot of monarchs around. It was sunny all day with temps in the 70's and light breezes. The monarchs were flying, nectaring, sunning, males chasing females, and females looking for milkweed & egg-laying.

In checking some of the milkweed in the pastures, I found all stages of monarch larvae ~ from newborn to 5th instars.

More of the milkweed is flowering now. There is also a lot of new growth of fresh sprouts. The female monarchs really seek this out for egg-laying, but also lay eggs on well-developed healthy milkweed. As the field grasses grow taller in places, the milkweed does too.

This is a photo of one of the male monarchs nectaring on the now-flowering milkweed (Asclepias viridis). His wing condition is typical of the monarchs I am seeing at this time.
