Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/23/2021

Number: 1

I was setting on my back porch when I heard the lovely sound of one of my hummers. My neighbor and I both have huge swarms of hummer families that rely on us each year. Sometimes 30 to 50 or more at peek feeding times like when I put fresh nectar out just before sunrise. So when the sun peeks over the hill and starts to wake them up and also warm them up then the beautiful music starts to flutter. I like to call it flight of the hummingbird. 2 yrs ago I was able to video a ruby flying upside down in reverse it was absolutely stunning, they are remarkable. Last year a baby ruby fell out of the nest and my cats found it for me. I hand fed it for several days and then one morning when I woke up it had passed away in its sleep. I’m not sure what happened I have yrs of experience with birds especially hand feeding and raising young into maturity. But there might have been internal damage I wasn’t aware of. Well enough about that. Today 4/23/2021 @ 12:50pm I sighted the 1st Hummer of the Season a Ruby Throated Hummingbird at my back porch feeding station located at 67 James Street, Ellenboro, WV 26346.
