Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/23/2021

Number: 3

Out of 40+ eggs that were laid by a tattered female on a few newly sprouted common milkweed on 4/12/2021, I found only 3 caterpillars which appear to have hatched within the last 24 hours (from the time of the photo which was on the afternoon of 04/23). Most of the other eggs had disappeared with in 3 days of being laid. I assume predated by spiders or another insect? There was also a hard freeze locally on 4/21, which I assume these guys survived as eggs and hatched the following day.
