Monarch Waystation #271 reports the first monarch, a faded female, laying eggs on all 5 available milkweed species in all beds [common, purple, swamp, tropical mws plus butterflyweed]. Photo shows her ovipositing on Purple Milkweed, front bed. Observed her her on and off between 12:09 am [when clouds parted] and 12:40 pm, this very active butterfly was hard to photograph clearly. Temperatures rose into the 80s when the sun appeared, kicking her into high gear...an "energizer bunny" that did not stop to nectar, only to alight briefly, accept or reject plants as she strongly flew through flower beds among the townhouses in the area. She left dozens of eggs, front and back. You GO, girl!
