The first shoots of syriaca milkweed in my garden appeared April 26. An area friend also spotted milkweed shoots in her garden before a freeze the night of April 22. She noticed monarch eggs on some of the unfolding leaves and brought them inside, not knowing if the eggs would survive the low of 26. On April 27 she happily reported that monarch caterpillars were hatching!
