Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/02/2021

Number: 1

At 9:20am a male hummingbird observed drinking from one of our five feeders. Possibly just a northward traveler as he sat just long enough to drink and fly off in a northward direction. Temperature at the time was 61 degrees with 79 degrees predicted to be the high today. It was sunny and windy with the wind at 15mph, gusting to 22mph. Besides our feeders, the only other items that might provide any nectar source at the present time are our crab trees which are in full bloom and certain annuals in hanging baskets scattered around the patio. No further return of this male to a feeder was observed in the following two hours. Later in the evening at 8:10pm again another male hummer or the same male made a quick stop at the same feeder. This time the male hummer flew in a westward direction.
