Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/30/2021

Number: 10

Yesterday and through the night we had rain totaling 4.6 inches. At 4:20pm today, it was 70 degrees F, cloudy, breezy, and 86% humidity. It had been lightly raining throughout this afternoon and was about to start up again, so I went to check the bottomland milkweed. Some was on slightly higher ground and was fine, some had been washed over by overflow rivulets. I found some monarch larvae and decided to bring them in to raise indoors.

This is a photo of a monarch caterpillar that was on a tall sturdy milkweed very close to the stream. His milkweed was surrounded by flattened grasses from the surging flow, though now abated. He was one of the caterpillars brought in today.
