Protracted unseasonably chilly weather following February's Big Freeze has resulted in milkweeds slow to emerge; usually they're up by now, so this is the first Showy that emerged here. It was beaten out by the ones reported previous to this report. This specimen is one of the youngest; the older ones still are below ground.
