I was sitting on my deck in western Connecticut the sunny morning of May 7, swiping away the carpenter bees, when a loud buzzing started in front of my face. I looked up expecting two of those bees unabashedly mating, and to my utter surprise, it was a male ruby-throated hovering, looking right at me! later that day we put out our feeder. waiting for his return!
