I have Asclepia speciosa milkweed and A. fasicularis in my small yards. I saw my first 5 or 6 eggs, on April 28 in front yard as my A. speciosa milkweed was reaching a foot in height. The eggs seemed a little smaller than years past? Two days later in the backyard I saw a second or third instar (?) caterpillar on my A fasicularis.
Beginning May 7, I am seeing at least two different females laying eggs. There is ample California nectar plants at samer site and no butterflies are choosing to feed.
