Sightings report image

Date: 05/20/2021

Number: 6

At least six individual RTHBs observed today at feeder, at least three males and three females seen at one time; variety of periods of tolerating each other or not, with all males, all females, or mixed group perched up to three at once.

Earlier in the day, three males sparred with much acrobatic flying around feeder. Later afternoon, three females at once perched and drank. Male with the golden gorget was most agressive of the bunch today.

Some rain a.m. yesterday broke the drought slightly. Some Large White Trilium bloomed on forest floor, and some trees flowered. Other than the weather change, I wonder if conception of first broods is complete, and explains clear behavior shift today.
