Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 05/24/2021

Number: 12

This cat is the last of the 12 captives reared from Florida Asclepius plants. For whatever reason, he was the slowest to develop. However, he’s determined to continue and is continuing to munch. I have four, including this little guy, who are remaining to convert into the “J”. I originally thought I had 8 young cats. Then I discovered the number was 11. Today I realize mom had laid 12 eggs on the two plants. One of the larva was unable to totally wiggle out of its exoskeleton. It remains at the top of its attachment stem and appears to be on top of its chrysalis. Should I be concerned? Will this interfere with the adult escaping when it’s drvrloped?
