Regrettably, I saw this monarch in the talons of a Mississippi kite landing in my neighbor's hackberry tree. Identity confirmed when one forewing and one hindwing fluttered down from the perch. I suspect a newly emerged adult. The mature adult that laid eggs on my milkweed this Spring seemed to take pains to fly next to a fence or garage wall to minimize exposure to predators.
