Sightings report image

Date: 05/27/2021

Number: 1

It doesn’t look like much but the whole yard is a big patch. Native species blooming in April and May include violets, trout lilly, broad leafed toothwort, may apple, Canada Mayflower, trillium, a false Solomon’s seal, several asters, and wild strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. Cultivated plants include a crabapple, cherry tree, strawberries, iris, daffodils and jonquils, forget me nots, petunias, snap dragons, crocus, lavender , dianthus, pansies, and marigolds. That’s just the start. There’s always something blooming and various bumble bees active but honey bees are scarce. Yellow and tiger swallow tails are abundant now but no monarch sightings yet.
