Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 06/10/2021

Number: 80

Before mowing our horse pasture I checked some of the milkweed and was completely overwhelmed by the numbers I seen... I have never in the 17 years I’ve lived here seen so many caterpillars, nearly every milkweed had caterpillars and a lot had 2, some three and even the one in the picture had four on one plant.
Lots of eggs too as 2 females were out in the pasture laying eggs. I have several videos of me going from one milkweed to another just showing endless caterpillars from 1st instars to 4-5th instars. I took about 80 Caterpillars from 1 acre and with the 90 degree heat and having to go to work I left as the guy with the tractor showed up to mow everything.... if my yard is not an anomaly then this may be the best year for monarchs in a while. I am posting pictures and video on a Facebook group if anyone want to see the incredible amount of caterpillars I’m finding.... Facebook group “Midwest Milkweed and Monarchs“ not even the middle of June and I have over 200 caterpillars I’m raising.... I do have thousands of milkweed in the area.
