Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 06/17/2021

Number: 52

As of today, population - there are approx 52 Monarch larvae caterpillars over residential yard .375 miles from Pacific Ocean as the Crow flies on native narrow leaf milkweed planted from seeds from nurseries, on tropical milkweed from Armstrong nursery, from milkweed obtained from last year from nursery at US Border recommended by Journey North rep, and on yellow milkweed grown from seeds off plants from last year that blew in the wind, landed and grew. And on orange yellow milkweed from Home Depot Encinitas that is producing larvae that die. They all appear healthy and strong. However, tachinid red eyed flies are around. Nets have been over plants for over a week to protect larvae from predators and reduce egg laying to avoid famine from larvae eating too much too soon per Journey North rep. Great idea. Some milkweed is in ground, in large pots with vinca flowers, in veggie garden, and in nursery pot to place into cages.
