Since then I’ve seen around 5 at the most. The number and activity of the hummingbirds seems far lower than last year. I have put out a variety of feeders (7 single hole, 3 w/3-6 holes and a long bar style feeder w/24 holes) around the East and South sides of the house. I plan on making a couple more of the bar feeders (12 holes) to help spread them around entire perimeter for better accessibility (less territorial competition). I am worried about the low activity compared to (my memory) last year. I use pure cane sugar (not beet sugar) w/o dye and clean my feeders when they get slightly cloudy. Anyway, maybe it’s too hot and that’s why the hummingbirds are staying hidden?
