Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 06/23/2021

Number: 1

While looking through the fence at the work being done to expand the Pollinators’ Garden in the Arboretum at Penn State University we spotted our first Monarch butterfly of the season.  It flitted about for maybe 10 sconds, never landed, then headed north up and over the fence and out of sight.  Too quick to determine gender or grab a camera.  But long enough for us to know that at least one Monarch butterfly has made it to Happy Valley.

This was about 4:00 PM.  At the time we had a clear blue sky with a light wind of 6 mph from the WSW.  Other conditions were:

  • Temperature:       72°F
  • Dewpoint:           46°F
  • Humidity:           41%
  • Air Pressure:       28.86 inches and steady
  • Latitude:          40.805°
  • Longitude: :        -77.869°
