Number: 94

I've grown Mexican Sun Flowers for my friends for years. Expected this year to be uneventful as usual. Almost all of my friends wanted the tall Mexican Sun Flowers and I saved my seeds from my own tall plants from last year and grew 94 Mexican Sun Flowers. May was cold and cloudy but the sun flowers looked good with thick stems. But then June came along with 90 plus degree days and a drought. In the heat, my 1 foot tall plants were blooming when they usually bloom at 3-4". Sent an email to the University of Minnesota Extension Division and learned that heat can negatively affect plants. Well it did mine big time. My plants are struggling to stay alive and struggling to maintain blooms at the same time. Climate change is affecting plants. It is sad.
