Many adult monarchs circling my yard & feasting on my tiger lilies & day lilies today. Probably about a dozen total.
Pairs & up to 6 or 8 at once have been sighted on all my flowering plants for the last 2 weeks. The first pair came early last month (the first week) while I was harvesting my lilac & honeysuckle blossoms to make mead from. They pollinated those plants & my apple & mulberry blossoms. Several landed on the peonies next to my lilacs while I was harvesting. A couple rested on my poppies for a while before their blooms fell off about 3 weeks ago. Various activities & combination of monarch & maybe 4-6 yellow/black wing adult butterflies since early May. Red winged blackbird flocks arrived in their usual #s around the same week as the first monarchs. I've seen 3-4 dozen pairs of that bird species around the local 5 mile radius they usually nest in around here. Good healthy population of both monarchs & red wing blackbirds. Times & dates are closest approximation I can remember. I've been all over michigan's upper peninsula the last several months & renovating a house we're buying about 15 miles away. At least 2 pairs of red wing blackbirds nesting close to our new place. Monarchs infrequent there but 6-8 over last couple months I've noticed. Just came across your website & thought I could contribute a bit of knowledge. The picture I'm including is from about 5 years ago in my current location. It liked me & perched on my hand for several minutes & posed for a couple pictures lol :)
