Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/11/2021

Number: 1

Almost every day for the past week, I've seen a female ruby-throated hummingbird collecting cattail fluff from seedheads that I've stuck in the windowbox outside my bedroom. (A female goldfinch has also been tearing out fluff, but she doesn't always take it with her now; maybe she already has enough.) usually, I'd be seeing fledglings by this time, and I think I did see one yesterday exploring all the nectar plants, so I'm puzzled by this one's apparent nest-building. (Photo of cattails just after she left with a beak full of the fluff.)
