Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/06/2021

Number: 1

Matt (my husband) watched an egg being laid by mom butterfly on 6/6. We took this one onto the porch and started our milkweeds-in-mason-jars for the season. She hatched from her chrysalis and flew on 6/30. She was no. 1 of 17 catterpillars we're raising. As of today, 7/15/21, 2 more girls and 1 boy have hatched and flown away, there are 5 chrysalises, and there are 5 caterpillars still munching on the plants. Two caterpillars have died :( and one baby one is missing. We continue to look for eggs and babies outside so we can bring them onto the porch so they don't become dinner for wasps, hornets, whatever else.
