3 monarch caterpillars are definitely 5th instar and one looked like a 4th instar close to molting.
These 4 are survivors from the 19 eggs and tiny caterpillars I reported awhile back. All except one of the 5th instar cats are on common milkweed in the field.
The remaining catepillar is spending its 5th instar in a tent being raised on cuttings of common milkweed. I should move it back to the wild but probably won't.
