Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/19/2021

Number: 1

Mowing was happening and I ran out to mark individual plants to be avoided when a single monarch butterfly fluttered around me and proceeded to visit each tiny plant (that had been mown down 2 weeks ago) and deposited a single egg on each plant as I sat and watched in the course of an hour, with one short break as she fluttered over to the (unchlorinated) pool and back.
Grasshoppers began to attack so I collected the plants, (pulled up or cut down) cleaned, set up a nursery and organized 29 eggs found of 56 plants under 5" tall. I will collect again tomorrow before mowing resumes.
