Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/19/2021

Number: 100

I observed monarchs today at my 18 locations that still have milkweed in flower to see how the butterflies were doing. I last counted the monarchs at these locations on July 12th, when I had counted 67, which was a net increase of 14, because I did not want to recount the 53 I had reported to JN earlier. My count today was 100, a net increase of 33. I noticed that there were 23 gray faded and tattered winged monarchs. I believe that the 3rd generation is beginning to expire. The other monarchs looked somewhat dull in color like the photo enclosed. I will do another count on or about July 27th to see if the 4th generation is emerging. Weather at 4:30 PM was a hazy sunshine because of the Western wildfires with the Wind SE-9 mph. The Dew Point was 63 with the Pressure of 30.08 and steady. The Temperature was 78F. Here are my counts for today between 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM:
