Monarch Waystation #271 reports a female monarch sighted as I was in the garden from 2:15 to 2:45 pm today while I inventoried milkweed stems. During this time period she was seen only in the larger front bed, flying around, nectaring heavily on Tithonia, attempting to nectar on Tropical milkweed [other insects competed and discouraged her], laying eggs on several milkweeds, and landing "touch and go" to inspect other milkweeds in deciding to lay eggs. Out of the 4 milkweed species present, the main species she was seen to "survey" was Tropical milkweed. See "egg sighting" this date for species used.
