TOTAL PLANTS: 1189
Survey conducted as part of Trinational Monarch Monitoring Blitz. Area surveyed totals 19,288 square feet divided in three distinct sections. Two sections are deemed at risk (within a 66-foot road allowance) while the larger area (14,760 sq. ft) resides on joint, privately owned lands and is therefore not deemed at risk. The area is an open meadow/riparian habitat. The majority of plants were exceptionally healthy with 80% in late-bloom, pre-seed pod stage. Within the larger area surveyed, plants average 5 feet tall, those along the roadside averaging 3 feet. Of all plants counted, (unfortunately) only 2 to 5 % contained any caterpillar bites at all. All plants counted are A. syriaca. A photo of a section of the larger survey area is enclosed.
