late afternoon, sunny, hot; below dam for Lake 14 at Maxwell NWR. lots of A. subverticillata, a little A. speciosa. a few monarchs flying through habitat. some flying on shady side of Siberian elm trees, seeking either shelter from wind or sun, maybe scouting roost for the night. highlight was a mated pair that flew out of a tree, then back in to hide from me.
