Sightings report image

Date: 07/27/2021

Number: 4

These are four chrysalises which were all formed between July 24-26, 2021. Whenever I find them on our milkweed outside, I place them in individual, clear, plastic cups with aluminum foil for the lid; and I give them fresh leaves daily. When a chrysalis forms on the foil, I transfer them to a dowel rod as shown. (That's where the foil is perfect, because I just cut it to a small rectangle size & wind it around the dowel. I don't need to touch the chrysalises to transfer. I place the stick securely at the top in a netted habitat, and wait for the big event!
(Note: This will be my 2nd time to release monarchs this summer. I successfully released 4 adults in the middle of June.)
