Lots of fresh commom milkweed with tender leaves in my garden/waystation.
I cut back all common milkweed on July 3rd. (All leaves, stems, etc. were examined for eggs and larvae before cutting.) I cut back for two reasons this year. #1 Aphid infestation was everywhere! #2 When I cut back by July 4th, the milkweed is healthier and fresher for monarchs.
Note: the photo only shows a small portion of common milkweed.
Note #2: I found eggs on 3" milkweed stems that were popping up in the grass/ lawn.
