Monarch Blitz 7-28-21. 3-4:30 PM. 80 degrees F.

Surrounded by homes, in the heart of the city, is a remarkable 292 acre preserve with several ponds and several paths surrounded by woods.

For this monarch blitz, I walked the .3 mile Lily Pond Path. Common milkweed lined the wide path and were too numerous to count.

It was sunny and warm with a breeze. Although I did not see any adult monarchs flying, I saw plenty of evidence that they were out and about, laying eggs. I sighted and photographed, eggs, chew holes and larvae on mostly common milkweed. I did spot a newly emerged larva on one specimen of swamp milkweed growing along a pond edge.

The common milkweeds were mostly done flowering and pods were forming.

The swamp milkweed I found was in flower.

There were numerous nectar plants of various species in bloom.

I'm sure the other paths and ponds in this preserve are lined with milkweed, common and swamp milkweed.

I will submit my other photos in separate posts.
