This report is for the monarch blitz. Monarch waystation 29393
3x times the number of butterflies this year, many are permanent residents that never leave my yard. My site consists mainly of common and swamp milkweed. The picture I uploaded is to reflect why I have increased numbers. I can confirm the study done by MSU regarding shoots is the key. I have 6-8 females laying eggs everyday on small milkweed shoots 4-6 inches tall and on milkweed growing in the shade, which never flowers. I have the optimal situation this year, milkweed in the sun is the pantry and milkweed in the shade as well as the new shoots, is the nursery. I captive raise some, as I have to pull the shoots in my lawn to cut the grass and these numbers reflect this 2021 increase. Last year raised 30 for entire season, was even hard finding eggs and small instars. To date 2021 (June and July) I have raised and released 35 butterflies, plus currently have 27 in chrysalis and 28 cats all different sizes. Total 90. Flowers that my monarchs currently feed on besides milkweed are; yellow and pink coneflower, anise hyssop, wild vervain, pink clethra bush
