Monarch caterpillar access and begins to feed on whorled milkweed stem and leaves after traversing dense understory growth of Bermuda grass. Bermuda grass is a common, non-native, and dense understory species along the Rio Grande bank. Tall coyote willow shrubs occur ~4m from this whorled milkweed patch.
