Monarch Blitz Report: July 30, 2021
Around 6PM on July 30, I stopped by the Buffalo Audubon Nature Center to look for monarch activity.
In front of the Nature Center is a large field approximately 3 acres in size.
The common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) was not blooming and large pods are forming.
There were some flowers in bloom like Queen Anne's Lace and a pollinator garden near by packed with flowering nectar plants.
I did not see any adults, larvae, eggs or chrysalides. It was a cool late afternoon, 61 degrees F. Still, I thought I would see larvae at least. I did see evidence of chewed leaves.
I'm sure there was some monarch activity earlier in the month.
The month of July in Western NY has been stormy with many rain days and is now considered the third most rainy July.
