The first whorled milkweed flower observation occurred, coincidentally, with the first bank-to-bank flow in the Rio Grande following release of stored water from Caballo Reservoir near TorC. Only a small number of milkweed plants emerged at this time, following 16 months of drought, and three weeks prior to the first monsoon rainstorms.
