Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 08/01/2021

Number: 16

I raise Monarch butterflies from eggs brought in immediately after being raised, disinfect with 5% bleach solution and feed only disinfected leaves throughout the larval stage. 70% of Monarchs are OE infected in my area and my goal is to raise OE free adults and release only those that test negative. All others are euthanized.

So although I see 1-3 Monarchs daily in my milkweed bed and bring in 10-20 eggs at one time, so far this year, I have released 15 healthy adults and euthanized 6.
