Monarch Blitz #4 (Donna Barski)

Common milkweed was the species growing in this large field where I saw three adult monarchs. The field spans around 20 - 30 acres. I walked the trails of a smaller portion of this large field, around 10 acres.

Iron weed and few other nectar plants were in bloom, but by far, the iron weed was the most popular.

I have visited this field for years to watch monarchs and other butterflies. The milkweed patch is slowly dwindling and being replaced by golden rod. Still there is enough milkweed to attract monarchs. Another patch of milkweed is growing along the back tree edge, in part sun and shade.
