Monarch Blitz #4 (Donna Barski)
Please read notes for monarch sightings - Blitz #4.
I did not see any larvae on this day in the field I was checking out, but I finally found one egg on milkweed about 300 feet from the entrance to the field I was visiting. It was on the underside of a common milkweed growing in a small garden plot I created several years ago with permission of the owner of the field I visited.
Western NY weather for July 2021:
This area of NY has had much rain in July, the third most rain on record for the month.
I have not seen many monarch larvae in July. For example, I noted eggs being laid a couple weeks ago on my milkweed patch across the road from this field and small garden plot, expecting to see larvae, but I have not. I wonder if the cooler temperatures this month along with heavy rain every day or so, has slowed or prevented the development of eggs and larvae.
