To date, this has been a peak week for locating larvae. We have had many adult monarch visitations during the summer. However, the number is exceptionally high during this month of August. The adults nectar upon our black night butterfly bushes and purple cone flowers. We have raised and released 20 adults prior to this discovery. We raise all larvae that we find in our butterfly habitats to protect them from predator wasps which seem to be a yearly threat in our area. We grow a variety of Asclepius plants that the eggs have been layed upon - Swamp, Tuberosa, and a variety that we purchased while in Florida, (Mexican Blood flower - red, yellow, and orange flowers). At last count, we have, in captivity, 40 cats in various instar stages of development with one creating a chrysalis. All appear to be healthy with the exception of two which we have removed to a separate environment.
