Sightings report image

Date: 08/12/2021

Number: 40

40 monarchs at the Tip at Point Pelee National Park between 7 & 8pm. First cluster of 2 not including the mated pair! They were nectaring in the meadow along west path. Others rooted in interior trees near east side & on bare branches & Hackberry trees & on bare branches above east shoreline. Also on vines cascading near Tip shuttle stop/Tower. All appeared pristine. A few more males than females but just by 2 or 3. They could not continue south aross the lake due strong SW wind @19kmh with 34 kmh gusts. 27°c high humidity & mostly cloudy.
Also 6-6:30pm checked Seacliff Park about 3 kms north of Point Pelee, no monarchs seen.29°c & calm. Clusters often seen there early in the season like the last 2 weeks of August.

Cold front arrives 8/13. Temps will drop a few degrees with 16-19°c overnight over the next 4 or 5 days. Daytime highs of 25/26. Less humidity.
