Monarchs at the Tip at Point Pelee National Park after a severe thunder storm & before sunset(8:32). Arrived in interior trees in the rain, 6:30pm & exited to west path at 7:10 when rain ceased. In interior & east shoreline I observed about 40 monarchs with a cluster of 5 & 1 of 2. Others individual. All on bare branches & Hackberry & Grape vines.
7:10-7:45 counted 35 zipping past me in directional flight frim north to south toward Tip. About a half dozen stopped to nectar on goldenrod in meadow on north side of west path.
All looked pristine. 2x more males than females from those that I could see (pics & bins).
Total for the evening about 75 but I'm sure more arrived as I left the Tip area around 7:45 for the walk back to my car at the Visitor Center. 2.5+ kms.
22°c, 87% humidity, rain/cloudy then cleared. Unable to cross the lake with WSW wind @19/37kmh which changes 8/14 to favourable north wind which will see them continue their journey south.
Cold front arriving. Overnight low of a refreshing & welcomed 16°. For a few days daytime highs around 24°c overnight lows around 16°c
