Monarch Waystation #271 reports just before 3 pm today a very active female monarch flew around the front yard as I moved some pots [with tropical milkweed and portulaca] from the patio into the beds where they could get more sunlight. There was a light breeze, temps in mid 80s, heat index 98, no wonder she was "pumped"! She alternated nectaring at tropical milkweed with stopping to assess all milkweeds for quality to oviposit [the "land, touch and go" motion]. Later at about 3:40 pm as I briefly looked out the patio door, the same female monarch [presumably] was seen in the backyard nectaring on tropical milkweed and directly ovipositing on swamp milkweeds. Did not count or verify the eggs, heavy rain looked imminent.
