While completing a volunteer assignment at the Virginia Living Museum, I was walking on a road just after 1 pm when I saw 2 monarchs nectaring on a variety of bedded and potted plants that line this access road near non-public support buildings. Blooms included Buddleia, tropical milkweed and several native plants. One monarch was a female seen actively ovipositing on several tropical milkweeds. The other monarch's gender was not verified, but it behaved like a male, alternating bouts of gliding flight with nectaring at random plants along the road. I did not have time to verify or count any eggs, just adults.
