Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/17/2021

Number: 11

11 Monarch caterpillars of various instars checking the milkweed plants in my gardens near the house.

Butterfly Milkweed: 9
Swamp Milkweed: 2

My Common Milkweed patch got repeatedly decimated by deer this year so I don’t think there was ever any there.
Hopefully they can all start their migration mid-late September if the temperatures stay warm enough consistently when they emerge as butterflies.
I think these will be the final caterpillars here this year as I haven’t observed any evidence of egg laying, just Monarch adults nectaring.
