The morning started out with a northwest wind at 8 mph at 10 AM. At 10:23 AM, I observed a monarch in directional flight heading SW over my back yard lawn. Then, the wind turned north-northeast at 10 mph at noon. At 1:10 PM, I saw a monarch about 50' high in directional flight south. At 1:40 PM, I saw another monarch heading west about 12' above the lawn. At 4 PM, I saw 3 monarchs land on my Joe-pye-weed flowers. Two were males with a female. They nectared for 5 minutes before leaving, 2 heading SW, and the other heading west. Finally, at 5:45 PM, another female nectared at the flowers for about 5 minutes before heading SW. The weather was mostly cloudy until 5 PM when it went 100% sunshine. The Temperature topped out at 78F.
