Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)
Sightings report image

Date: 08/24/2021

Number: 1

This male is among the three other Ruby Throated hummingbirds who've made a summer home in our yard. While the Firespike is about to bloom, they're feeding on Butterfly bush, Cigar plants, Chinese lantern, Porterweed, Lantana, Chive blossoms, and milkweed. We've started hanging the feeders under the oak trees and under an umbrella to avoid the direct sun. While dawn, dusk, and rain showers are the surest times for watching them, we've noticed that they've been feeding all day long for the past two weeks. One even chased away a hornet three times from the Cuphea, which has thousands of flowers. The hummingbird's determination to feed is on full display!
