Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/29/2021

Number: 30

Many adult monarchs nectaring constantly on zinnias!

[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 08/31/21]:
I counted them as they landed on the flowers and that is where the number 30 came from. There could have been more as they were flitting in and out from a roost I could not locate in the time I was there.

I observed them at 1030 am and 4 pm CST. I spent 5 minutes counting.

They were in an open field with a community garden and pollinator habitat. The ones I counted were all on zinnias. They were flitting and nectaring. I was unable to locate a roost nearby but the street has several large oak and pine trees nearby.

Wind speed was low, don’t know the direction.
