I observed no monarchs yesterday with thunderstorms moving through the area on a steady SW Wind at 15 mph. Today, I did my 2 mile walk to town and back to my house and counted 7 monarchs between 10:30 AM and Noon. The Wind was W-9 mph and sunny. Six of the monarchs were nectaring on 3 purple flowered butterfly bushes in town, while the other one was nectaring on a dandelion flower at Pine Street and Hwy US-23. At my house with the Wind W-9-15 mph, I saw no monarchs to 1:30 PM. I decided to look for monarchs along the shores of Lake Huron at Harrisville State Park to 4:30 PM. On a WNW Wind at 3 mph, I counted 8 monarchs flying south at 20 to 100' overhead. No monarchs were seen the last hour of the count, so I headed back home to where I observed a female monarch in my Joe-pye-weed garden at 5 PM. The Temperature topped out at 75F.
