There is definitely change in the air here, literally and figuratively, in regards to our rubies. Our resident adult male is still with us and has positioned himself back in a prominent location in our front yard. Another adult ruby male has also been with us the last couple days. Our resident adult male has been maintaining control of his feeder and flowers even though the visiting adult male taunts him. It doesn't appear to phase him.
One of our resident juvenile ruby males has been working hard to control 3 feeders around the back patio. And a very small resident juvenile female makes herself quite present as well.
I didn't see our resident adult female mama ruby today. The last fews days observing her lead me to believe she is in the midst of a heavy molt as she looks rather scruffy. I have worried quite a bit about her.
We finally got some good rain yesterday after an absence of any for 2 weeks. Hopefully, the rain will result in lots of insects for our rubies to fatten up on before they leave on their journey. It has been a bit quieter among the hummers; not as much chatter and chasing. Godspeed my little friends.
