Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/04/2021

Number: 150

Had a near repeat of the Aug.30 roost, but BETTER! Alfalfa field was still uncut and blooming nicely so mild WSW winds brought in a nice new bunch of Monarchs today.
My return trip on August 31 was a bust....saw only a handful of monarchs, the result of northerly winds that moved them on.
The refill today was wonderful, and the last for this field because it was being mowed as I started my evening search.
Ended up seeing several clusters, ranging from 3 or 4 to about 50....might have been more than 150 monarchs in all, but we'll call it that.
Tomorrow promises to be another great migrating day, with North winds in the 6-8 mph range.
Temps today, mid 70s, dropped to 67 by sunset, and promise to be mid 50s by early morning.
